Penghu has been working on localization for many years, and has developed numerous local specialty products by taking unique animals, plants, and scenery of Penghu as materials, combining with basalt, straws, marine products, and crops as well as the exquisite skills of the prisoners. 
The Self-Employment of Penghu Prison is separated in to three categories of art, food, and crops. 
Art subjects include sand painting, porcelain painting, stone carving, woodworking, leather carving, straw weaving, bamboo weaving, paper carving, handmade cards, and so on.
Food subjects mainly include bread and cookies.
Crop subjects include Glossogyne tenuifolia, ice plants, Penghu sponge gourd, Penghu garland chrysanthemum, and other unique seasonal fruits and vegetables planted in only in Penghu.
