The prison was established in 1,950. Originally located on Hsinsheng Road in Makung City, the locationproved to be inadequate to meet the expanding needs, and in 1986 a new setting was chosen. The new prison was finished and the transfer completed at the end of 1988. (see photo 1) As of July 2, 1998 the prison was combined with the Penghu Detention House, the Juvenile Detention House, and the Rehabilitation Institution.For Agency of Corrections,Ministry of Justice was established in January 1, 2011,The prison was renamed Penghu Prison, Agency of Corrections,Ministry.
